I’ve had a bit of a riddle trapped in my brain for months now that I’ve expressed verbally from place to place, but now, thanks to the efforts of Paul Fleuret (Absolute1776), there is a graphic to explain this brain twister.

I’ve told you that in 1888, President Grover Cleveland gained votes from his first election in 1884, but lost reelection to Benjamin Harrison, making him the last incumbent President to gain votes and lose until… “the safest and most secure election of all time” in 2020.

Not only did Trump gain votes, but he gained over 11 million votes, one of the highest single election jumps of all time. Incumbents who gain votes win.

Many election fraud deniers will say Trump didn’t have the full Republican vote behind him, just like Kari Lake supposedly lacked it.

How to Debunk: Trump had a 94% share of the GOP primary vote, fourth highest of all time, and in suburban GOP counties full of “suburban women,” his vote gains were all-time records that dwarfed gains from candidates like Mitt Romney, John McCain, or even himself from 2016.

Election fraud deniers also like to say Trump didn’t have support from Independents or Moderates.

How to Debunk: “So if Trump didn’t have the GOP voter, and he didn’t win Independents or Moderates, that must mean he had to get most of those new votes from Democrats!”

You will win this argument every time as soon as you say, “how did Joe Biden get 81 million votes if Trump won his new votes from Democrats?”

Fight fire with fire, and drive on.
