I'm a refugee from Illinois, living in the great state of Indiana for the last 6 years. It's like living in another world. Illinois will never let anyone go willingly. They can't afford to. Slave holders don't willingly set the slaves free. Chicago would wither and die without the confiscated taxes from the rest of the counties that prop it up.

Welcome to our great state Tim! I’m in Hancock County, involved with the local GOP. I know several others here who did the same as you, I fled CA 11 years ago and never looked back

And if we actually believe in the principles of the Declaration of Independence, those Illinois counties should be allowed to leave.

IF (big if) they do leave, it will probably have to be through putting facts on the ground and telling authorities who don't like it to shove off.

It’s a more likely option than parts Oregon and California breaking off to the “STATE OF JEFFERSON” that’s wanted by many.

Thank you for stoking a fire that we all hope will catch. Like your dad wrote “attitude determines altitude”

I just don't see Idaho or Indiana or any of these boundary changes happening. I agree a debt crisis might provide some temporary leverage, but in the end the other side is a bunch of people with no moral compass enslaved to their earthly desires – and they have a desperate need to control everything to provide them their dreams.

Being born and raised in Chicago.. I believe you have to be buried/cremated in Chicago/Illinois to be on the Voter rolls after death ... IMO

I would like the Adirondack region to succeed from New York State.

Unfortunately, there is nowhere nearby to succeed to.

You don't even ask the question, Is Indiana Republican? Indiana is mostly RINO, Republican in Name Only. It is also very corrupt. It is nearly fascist. Businesses and Government are very intertwined, and the military industrial complex is very much alive and kicking. In a report issued in 2007, "Immediate Next Steps: #1. Establish a Public/Private Partnership to Maximize Growth of Indiana’s Defense Industry." The report is:

INDIANA DEFENSE ASSET STUDY

AND

BRAC‐AFFECTED COMMUNITIES ANALYSIS

October 2007

Prepared by:

Central Indiana Corporate Partnership

Another report, for The U. S. DOD, https://oldcc.gov/sites/default/files/2024-12/fy2022_defense_spending_in.pdf

lists Indiana as getting 1.5% of total DOD spending

No doubt it will increase because of its overwhelming support of Trump in 2024.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure I know of any GOP run state that is run by hardcore populists.

Part of the issue here is that in states (and counties) that are GOP strongholds, and don’t register voters by party, RINOs will run as Republicans to get elected. I’m active in the GOP of Hancock County, IN (east of Indianapolis) and it did not take long to figure that out. Many democrats locally vote in the Republican primary since the local races are frequently uncontested GOP seats; RINOs will often try to pander to them and in a crowded primary, it often gets them in.
