In 1979 I was an expatriate working for a US company in Asia. It was horrifying to see the US allow the hostage taking in Tehran. And as the mother of a former Marine, the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut was another atrocity. The President cited the other many examples of Iranian aggression since the Islamic extremists started controlling the country. US action is long, long overdue- especially with the prospect of the Iranians providing a small nuclear weapon to terrorists who could load it on a boat and detonate it in NY Harbor, for example. The aggression was never going to stop and given the weak response from the US over the last decades the Iranians had every reason to believe they could escalate with impunity. And if anyone thinks ANY agreement with the Iranians would have been anything more than the Iranians buying time to prepare for more aggression, they are hopelessly naive. As far as I am concerned, every American should be standing up and cheering!!
I think you hit the nail on the head. They have acted badly unabated since taking the hostages. They talk out of both sides of their mouth, telling us and the world one thing and quietly doing the opposite! Good riddance!
I'm seeing sources saying on Feb 27, the day before the strike, Iran had agreed to no nuclear weapons. (These sources need to be further vetted.) But it seems clear it wasn't about just nuclear weapons, it is about Iran's missiles. And now, on Tuesday we have a blood moon. Look it up. It can have apocalyptic significance to Muslims.
